Quiz: Which Food Has More Sugar?
Get sugar savvy: Author High Voltage shares which common foods are shocking sources of added sugar.
Go get a bag or box of sugar.
First, the math: 1 teaspoon of sugar (1 cube) = 4 grams
of sugar. Now check the label on a 20-ounce bottle of soda; it lists 65 grams of sugar. And 65 grams divided by 4 grams per teaspoon = 16 1/4 teaspoons or cubes! Go ahead and pile or stack away. Because THAT is what you’re
dumping into your body every single time you drink that bottle of soda—almost three times the amount of sugar you should have in a whole day! What follows are not the only brands that contain lots of added sugar. They’re just the ones I was most shocked by. So make sure to check out the labels of the brands you usually eat.
Sugar Shocker: Commercial BBQ Sauce!
A quarter cup of commercial BBQ sauce (such as Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce) contains more sugar than a regular size (250-calorie) Snickers bar.
Sugar Shocker: Fruit Jelly
Just 4 tablespoons of Smucker’s grape jelly contain more sugar than a 2-ounce bag of Skittles.
Sugar Shocker: French Dressing
A quarter cup of Kraft French Dressing contains as much sugar as a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
Which has more sugar?
Dole Pineapple Rings or 1 cup of Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey Ice Cream?
